Even though Lebanon might not be your typical destination, if you're visiting this fascinating country, its capital, Beirut, is the perfect camp base to explore what this place has to offer.
During my visit to Beirut, I stayed at the Mayflower Hotel, a 4-star hotel located just a few meters away from Hamra Street, one of the main streets of Beirut. You couldn't find a better location to enjoy this incredible city!
The Mayflower Hotel is one of the oldest active hotels in Beirut. The hotel has celebrated its 60th anniversary just this year, but it was fully renovated in 2006, keeping its original style with all the necessary amenities that you'll need for your stay.
The hotel has a total of 81 in 7 floors divided into the following categories:
- Single Room
- Double Room
- Twin Room
- Triple Room
- Junior Suite
- Executive Suite
- Duplex Suite
I stayed in the Duplex Suite, a very spacious 88m² room divided into two different levels with a spacious living room and bathroom downstairs, and the king bed and ensuite bathroom upstairs.
The suite can easily accommodate up to 4 people. The suite only has a king bed for two people, but in spite of some initial confusion with the amount of beds after we checked in, the reception quickly helped us making sure all additional guests could get their own bed as well.
The room included a traditional buffet breakfast in the Louly’s Restaurant downstairs. The selection was great; from some traditional Lebanese delicacies including salad, olives, cheese and cold meats to a more continental option of hot food and pastries.
In the Mayflower Hotel you can also find the Duke of Wellington Pub, where you can enjoy a drink in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere or enjoy a football match on the big plasma screen.
On the very last floor of the building, you can relax in the terrace lounge, offering great views over the city. The terrace also includes a swimming pool, only open in the summer months.
Overall, I had a pleasant stay at the Mayflower Hotel. Even though Hamra Street is just meters away, the hotel is located in a quiet side street, so you won't have much noise. The staff was incredibly friendly and always made me feel welcome during my stay.
Even though the hotel was renovated quite recently, most of the facilities have kept an old-fashioned style, which seems to be the norm in most Middle Eastern hotels. This gives the Mayflower Hotel a very unique
